The 205 series (205系, 205-kei) is a DC electric multiple unit (EMU) commuter train type introduced in 1985 by Japanese National Railways (JNR), and inherited by JR East and JR West after JNR was privatised two years later. It is currently operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East), West Japan Railway Company (JR West), Fuji Kyuko (Fujikyu) in Japan and KAI Commuter in Indonesia. Some of them were re-designated as Fujikyuko Series 6000.

The 205 series was first brought in by the company PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (now PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia, operating as KAI Commuter) at the end of 2013 and is planned to continue until 2020. With its large number, this KRL can dominate the Jabodetabek route, and now all Jabodetabek routes have been passed by the 205 series EMU. This EMU uses resistor control (rheostat) and VVVF-IGBT technology, and because most of this KRL uses rheostat technology, all routes in Jabodetabek can also be passed easily.
